Miguel AbascalThe Orange Way

Profit and Growth Advisor. Ontario, Canada, and remote.

I help owners find the money in their business, and make it happen.

I look at where your money comes in and where it goes out. I find what is being missed. Then I stay and help you get it done, beside your accountant.

Tell me what is going on. I'll tell you honestly if I can help.

12 years in banking. I helped generate more than $500 million in revenue, savings and profit across pricing and product projects at TD and Scotiabank.

You are busy. The bank account does not show it.

Sales are up. You are working harder than last year. And the money still goes down. When that happens, it helps to have someone look at the whole picture with you.

Words owners use in public posts. Not my clients. Maybe you have said one of them.

  • Profitable on paper, broke in the bank.
  • I'm always kind of guessing.
  • Can we afford to hire, invest, or take money out?
  • What kind of finance person do I even hire?
  • My accountant is reactive. I want a year round advisor.

Find the money. Then make it happen.

Find the Money

We start here. I look at your numbers and give you a list of what I find, each item with a dollar number. You pay me a share of the money we find. We agree on the share together, in writing, before we start.

How Find the Money works
Example list of findings
ItemFound
Vendor contract that renewed on its own$ ______
Software nobody uses$ ______
Prices and discounts$ ______
Card fees and payment terms$ ______
The format of the list you get. An example, not a client.

Make it happen

A list does not pay anybody. So I stay. I help your team do the work: vendors, contracts, software, prices.

Beside your accountant and CFO

Your accountant keeps your books right. Your CFO sets the plan. I'm the chief of getting things done: the team that makes their plan happen.

For accountants and CFOs

How it goes

  • We talk for 30 minutes. You tell me what is going on.
  • I look. One view of where your money comes in and where it goes out.
  • You get a list. What I found, each item with a dollar number.
  • You pick. I stay and help you do it.
  • We check the numbers every month until it has paid for itself.

Why The Orange Way

I spent twelve years in banking. I came to Canada from Mexico, started over, and worked my way up.

I thought I understood money. Then I learned what money really is.

Money is the stored energy of your work: your hours, your effort, your risk, saved for later. Good money keeps that energy. Bad money leaks it.

The idea came to me through Bitcoin, and orange is its color. That is why I call my way The Orange Way.

Money is the stored energy of your work.

Four questions I ask every owner

  • Sound. Do your prices and margins hold up when costs rise?
  • Secure. Is what you earn protected from one big customer, vendor or contract?
  • Scarce. Where do your limited hours and dollars go?
  • Yours. Who decides: you, or a contract you signed years ago?

Accountants and CFOs: you keep the client.

You see where a client's money can be found. I make the plan happen. I'm the implementation team for your strategy. The client stays yours.

The show: Advice That Worked

Advice That Worked is my show. Each guest tells the story of one big move: what they decided, what happened, and what they would do again.

Quick answers

Are you a CPA?

No. I don't do books, taxes, audits or reviews. Your accountant does that, and I work beside them.

Do you replace my accountant or CFO?

No. They keep their job. I help you decide what to do with what we find, and I help get it done.

How do you charge?

For the first piece of work, you pay a share of the money we find. We agree the share together, in writing, before we start. After that, a fixed fee or a monthly plan, agreed first.
